Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
For the Topping
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and brown sugar.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and vegetable oil.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
Bake the Bread
  1. Grease a loaf pan and pour the batter into it, smoothing the top.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Prepare the Topping
  1. While the bread is baking, melt the butter in a small bowl.
  2. Stir in the garlic powder and Italian seasoning until well combined.
Finish and Serve
  1. Once the bread is baked, remove it from the oven and brush the melted butter mixture over the top.
  2. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  3. Slice and serve warm, ideally with a side of butter or your favorite dip.
