Method
Marinate the Chicken
- In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and black pepper to create the marinade.
- Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
Cook the Chicken
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large oven-safe skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Remove chicken from marinade and sear on both sides until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes per side.
- Pour the remaining marinade over the chicken, then transfer the skillet to the preheated oven.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (75°C).
Serve
- Remove chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
- Serve the chicken over cooked rice and garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
