30 Minute Black Pepper Tofu

This quick and flavorful black pepper tofu dish combines crispy tofu with a spicy soy sauce glaze, perfect for a busy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients
  

For the Tofu
  • 14 ounces firm tofu pressed and cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying
For the Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup for vegan option
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
For the Garnish
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds toasted

Method
 

Prepare the Tofu
  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture. Cut into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until fully coated.
Fry the Tofu
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the tofu cubes and fry until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Flip occasionally.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, black pepper, honey, and sesame oil.
Combine Tofu and Sauce
  1. Once the tofu is crispy, reduce heat to medium and pour the sauce over the tofu.
  2. Toss gently to coat the tofu in the sauce, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes.
Garnish and Serve
  1. Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish.
  2. Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving.
