  • 500g white fish fillets (cod or haddock)
  • 200g smoked haddock
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 23 cloves garlic, minced
  • 50g butter
  • 50g flour
  • 500ml whole milk or heavy cream
  • 150g frozen peas
  • Fresh dill or parsley (to taste)
  • 800g starchy potatoes (Russet)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté until translucent.
  3. Stir in flour to form a roux; cook briefly to eliminate raw flour taste.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk or cream until smooth; simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
  5. Fold in diced fish and peas; season with salt, pepper, and herbs.
  6. Boil peeled potatoes until tender. Drain and mash with butter and milk; season to taste.
  7. Pour fish filling into a baking dish; spread mashed potatoes on top evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
